Curate's Egg

Welcome to the page devoted to the incoherent ramblings of St.Andrew's curate, the Reverend Marc Catley.

Hello all, and seasons greetings to you. There are many special words associated with Christmas. Here, I explain and demystify some of these technical terms.

Advent - make a hole in the church wall to let some air in.

Crib Service - a service of divine worship shamelessly copied from a neighbouring parish.

Christingle - the sensation of the hairs going up on the back of your neck at the thought of all the Christmas presents you are going to receive.

Bauble - a particularly good looking female wild pig.

Magi - three American Armed Forces personnel who arrive five months too late for the nativity.

Ether - another Christian festival that many consider to be more important than Cwithmath.

Parish - the destination of St.Andrew's PCC's Christmas booze cruise.

Carol - the lady who makes the mince pies.

Caro - the correct spelling of 'Carol' during the Christmas season.

St@PH stands for "St.Andrew's at Park Hill". It is a worship service that
takes place at Park Hill School on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month.
Following the success of St@PH, St.Andrew's plans to launch the following
'fresh expressions' of church;

St@RT (St.Andrew's at the Running Track)

    St@MP (St.Andrew's at Meriden Post-Office)

St@GGER (St.Andrew's at the Greedy Guzzler, Earlsdon Road)

    St@CK (St.Andrew's at the Co-op, Kenilworth)

Further afield, St.Andrew's plans to plant congregations in Scotland and in
East Sussex:

    St@G (St.Andrew's at Glencoe)

    St@B (St.Andrew's at Battle)

Our most ambitious project is to reach out to the barge dwelling community
in Germany with:

St@NK (St.Andrew's at the Neuhaus Kanaal)
