Pews News
This is the Pews News for 13th November 2011
Welcome
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or
thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital
status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep
and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith.
If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the
pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any questions.
St@PH
Meets at Park Hill School today at 10.30 a.m. St@PH is a
service of contemporary worship, with a very warm sense of fellowship which
meets every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. All are warmly welcomed.
Next Sunday
We welcome Father Nick Leggett, the Vicar of St Oswalds to
lead and preach at our service, while Greg reciprocates at St Oswalds. In the
evening, there is a Youth Service at 6.30 p.m. in which the theme is caring for
God’s creation. Please do come along and support our young people.
Pram Service
Our successful Pram Service which provides for
parents/carers and pre-school children has now doubled in frequency, in
conjunction with St Oswalds Tile Hill. This very informal service takes place on
the second Tuesday of each month at St Oswalds and on the 4th Sunday at St
Andrews. The service starts at 9.15 a.m. with people arriving from 9 a.m. for
tea/coffee. The next one takes place next Tuesday 22nd at St Andrews. All
welcome.
Christingle
The December Worship 4 All service on the 4th will be a
Christingle Service. Please consider supporting the Children’s Society by taking
a Christingle candle moneybox and filling it with change. You can return this at
the service or at other services that week. Although the main focus of the
service is Christingle, we will as usual be receiving new toys to be distributed
around the city to those children who would otherwise receive very little this
Christmas.
Darkness to Light
We are having a special Darkness to Light Advent Service on
Advent Sunday, November 27th at 6 p.m. to mark the start of Advent. Please do
join us for this special candlelit service.
Sidespersons
We are seeking additional volunteers to act as sidespersons
(welcoming people and distributing hymn books etc.) to join our loyal band of
helpers; and also those willing to carry the elements (bread and wine) forward
during the offertory. If able to help, please speak to Steve Wankling or Greg.
Bible Marathon
Please make a note in your diaries of the Bible Marathon to
celebrate the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible which will take place in
church on Friday November 25th from 9 a.m. till 12 midnight. Come just for half
an hour or the whole day if you dare! We are looking for volunteers to read –
only 10 minutes at a time at selected periods during the day. Please speak to
Greg if you are willing to help.
Nightingales
The very popular Nightingales Singers are going to be
performing at St Andrews on Saturday December 10th at 7 p.m. with their
wonderful Christmas repertoire. Tickets are available at £5 for adults and £2
for children from Barbara 76403458 or Marguerite 76461405.
Junior Disco
We are hosting a disco at Eastern Green Village Hall on
Saturday Dec 3rd from 1 p.m till 4 p.m. Any child of Junior School age i.e. in
school years 3-6 welcome. Tickets are £1 and are available from Victoria on
76461184. With a capacity for the event of 40, it is advisable to book early.
Window Fund
Continued thanks to all those who are supporting our window
appeal. It will not have escaped your notice that the cracks are increasing in
size with the dry weather. We hope to be given permission to undertake remedial
work early in the new year. The appeal currently stands at £5,200.
Carol Services
Advance notice that St Andrews will be running two Carol
Services this year: at St Andrews on December 18th at 6 p.m. and jointly with St
Oswalds at the Massey Ferguson Social Club on December 11th at 6 p.m.
Junior Church
We are scheduled to be desperately short of Junior Church
leaders next term, and may no longer be able to offer a full programme. Please
do pray about whether God might be calling you to this vital ministry. Leaders
are expected to take part in a rota (usually once a month). Please speak to
Frances Hawkey if you would like to know more.
