Pews News
This is the Pews News for 15th August 2010
Welcome
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or
thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital
status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep
and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith.
If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the
pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any questions.
Coffee
Tea and coffee is available after our service, and feel free to carry your drink
into the main body of the church.
Summer Services
Communion services over the summer will be kept to an hour. Children and
their families are very welcome. ‘Happy bags’ are provided and may be
collected from the back of church (one per family). Children are also
welcome to make use of the sideroom, but will not be supervised.
St Oswalds
We are pleased to announce that a new Vicar has been appointed at St Oswald’s
Church in Tile Hill: Rev Nicholas Leggett, who is currently serving as a vicar
in Bridgewater, Somerset. He will be installed some time in November.
Anyone who thinks they might be interested should speak to Greg or Fran. with
the team, so congratulations to them and to Marc.
Growing Leaders
The final module of Growing Leaders will start again in the autumn, with three
sessions on Wednesdays 8th Sept, 6th Oct and 10th November. Anyone who
participated in Growing Leaders the first time who would like a refresher is
welcome to join us. Please speak to Greg about this.
Home Groups
Home Groups will be starting up again in September, with groups running on Tues,
Weds and Thurs evenings and one on Tuesday afternoon. There are sign up
sheets for these at the back of church. Please feel free to add your name
to whichever group suits you best.
St@PH services over the summer
There is a St@Ph service at Park Hill School this morning, but there will be no
St@PH service in August because the school is out of action. The next
service after today will take place on Sun Sept 12th at 10.30 a.m. There is also
a St@PH coffee morning at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Monday 26th July at 2 Alspath Lane.
Nativity
The PCC has agreed that we should stage a nativity production in the vicarage
grounds making use of the stable during the Christmas period. Anyone who
is interested in helping with this, whether with performing or back stage (set
production etc) should speak to Greg. The first planning meeting will take
place on September 15th at 6.30 p.m. at 14 Polperro Drive.
Transport Officer
We have found a volunteer, Sara Parkes, for the role as church transport
officer. We are very grateful to Sara for her willingness to do this.
Sara’s first task is to draw up a list of those who are prepared to offer a lift
to others on either an occasional or regular basis. We wouldn’t expect
people to go very far out of their way to do this. If you are willing to
help in this way, please contact Sara on 7646 4097.
Ride and Stride
On Sat Sept 11th, Greg will be participating in the Diocese’s Ride and Stride
day. This entails trying to visit as many churches in Warwickshire as time
allows, using either a bicycle or feet as the means of transport. Anyone
willing to join him even for one leg of the journey would be very welcome.
Please sponsor him using the blue forms at the back of church. Half the
funds will go to historic churches in Coventry and Warwickshire for their
maintenance, while the other 50% will go to St Andrews.
Prayer Evening
Do join us to pray for the church and its ministry tomorrow evening at 6.30 p.m.
in church. Our time of prayer usually lasts 45 mins. All welcome.
Songs of Praise
There will be a Songs of Praise service on Sunday Sept 12th at 6 p.m. to welcome
Mrs Allison Underhill as the new Head Teacher at St Andrews School.
Members of the school community will be choosing hymns and both the school choir
and St Andrews choir will sing. Please support this service to maintain
our much valued close links with the school.
